MARAUDERS COME UP SHORT AS BADGERS STAY UNDEFEATED

Box Score The McMaster Marauders women's basketball team fell to the Brock Badgers 72-53 on Saturday afternoon at Burridge Gymnasium.

As this was the McMaster women's basketball team's Black History Month Game, local Black-owned businesses and resources for Black students, including the Black Student Athlete Council (BSAC), the Black Students Association (BSA), and the Black Student Success Center (BSSC) were highlighted. The Canadian national anthem and the Black anthem was sung by a Black singer and McMaster alumni, Abi Oladesu.

In game news, Amy Stinson had a strong game, leading all scorers with 19 points, along with seven rebounds and five three-pointers, a career-high. Sarah Gates led all players in rebounds, grabbing 11 boards in the contest - four offensive and seven defensive - while also putting up 12 points in her 34 minutes of play.

The first quarter of play was back and forth basketball with the Marauders putting up 14 and the Badgers putting up 16 points. The Marauders played a defensive quarter and held the opponents to 35% shooting from field goal range. While the Badgers kept their lead throughout the second quarter, the Marauders were able to slow the game in the third, holding the Badgers to 15 points and a 37.5% average from field goal range.

The Maroon came out hustling in the fourth quarter making up some ground. In the last quarter alone, the Marauders put up six threes - three from Amy Stinson, with Tori Rigas-Didomenico, Deanna Patterson and Pietra Kamstra respectively hitting up one each. With the squad sending solid assists, they were able to lock away 21 points in the quarter, while Brock put up 20.

With the loss, the McMaster Marauders now hold a 6-4 conference record and will return to play on February 23rd at Burridge Gym against the Windsor Lancers. Tip-off is schedule for 6pm.
