The McMaster Marauders women's basketball team fell to the Brock Badgers 67-54 in the Bob Davis Gym on Wednesday night.
Â
After a tough loss at home on Saturday, the Marauders came out strong against the Badgers and their determination proved itself early in the game.
Â
McMaster ended the first quarter two points ahead of the Badgers at 20-18.
Â
Veteran guard
Sarah Gates put away 16 of McMaster's points in the first half of the game, including a trio of three-pointers.
Â
Though the Marauders continued to put baskets away, they fell short in the second quarter and Brock took a 36-33 lead at half time.
Â
With
Clare Sharkey on the rebound, McMaster continued to persevere both offensively and defensively — the forward grabbed six of her eight rebounds in the second half alone.
Â
However, even with McMaster's tenacity at the net, Brock jumped ahead, snatching 12 more points than the Marauders in the third quarter.
Â
Hard minutes played in the second half by point guard
Arianne Soriano and forward
Amy Stinson wouldn't be wasted though.
Â
Down 58-43 going into the fourth quarter, McMaster pressed on, outscoring the Badgers 11-9 in an attempt to close the gap between them.
Â
Ultimately, McMaster couldn't squeak past the Badgers though and Brock took the game by 13 points.
Â
The Marauders are set to take on Brock in a home-game rematch on Saturday at 1 pm in celebration of Black History Month.
