The McMaster Marauders women's basketball team have continued to grow in strength and talent as they scout out their new recruits for the upcoming season.
Joining the roster this fall is Jocelyn Newby, a 5'8 guard from Guelph, Ont. Newby played high school basketball at Centennial Collegiate Vocational Institute, and her club basketball for Tri-County Soldiers. An aggressive defender and active play-maker, Newby is touted for her basketball IQ on the court - a skill that makes her a great asset along with her fast-paced play.
"We are so pleased to welcome Joceyln to our Marauders family," said Head Coach, Theresa Burns. "Jocelyn is an outstanding student, and her her IQ transfers well to the basketball court. She's a play-making guard who can also find multiple ways to score herself - an aggressive defender and loves the fast pace which is our Marauders style of play."
Familiar to playing at a high-level and the accolades that come with her talent, Newby was named a District 10 senior all-star and qualified for the District 10 Senior Championship every season for Centennial CVI.
"McMaster was my first choice academically when I decided I wanted to study Life Sciences," said Newby. "To attend my top school and be lucky enough to compete with elite athletes in U SPORTS while learning from Coach Burns and the Mac staff is all I could have asked for as a student athlete."
Having made academic honour roll every year of high school, Newby intends to study in the Life Sciences program in the fall. The Guelph local is looking forward to playing in the District 10 Championship game later this month before joining the Maroon and Grey in the fall.
