Badgers outlast Marauders to pick up Saturday night win

HAMILTON, Ont. - In the fourth home game of the season, the McMaster Marauders hosted the Brock Badgers in a rivalry match-up.

Coming off of a big win last night, the Marauders looked to add another win to their record but came up just short on Saturday, dropping the contest 75-67 to the Badgers.

A fixture that is always marked in each team's calendar, both teams were in search of a win and started the game with some intensity. Both squads drove the net but it was Brock who had the near perfect start, going 4-for-4 from outside the arc in the opening quarter to lead 25-18 after ten minutes.

The Marauders opened the scoring in the second frame but the two teams continued to trade baskets. Mike Demagus (Scarborough, Ont.) had one of the most memorable plays of the game with a highlight reel dunk to give the Marauders the lead with 3:44 remaining in the second quarter. McMaster's lead held for a minute and a half but the Badgers matched the Marauders' 27 second quarter points to maintain the advantage at the halftime break - 52-45.

Both teams struggled to score in the third quarter, combining for just 24 points but the visitors held the advantage to take a narrow lead into the fourth.

McMaster outscored Brock in the final frame but it was too little too late as the first half proved to be the difference for the Badgers who took the game by a final score of 75-67.

Sefa Otchere (Niagara Falls, Ont.) and AY Osunde (Scarborough, Ont.) each totaled a team high 13 points while veterans Mike Demagus and Mychael Paulo (Brampton, Ont.) added another 11 each. Khalil Miller (Scarborough, Ont.) continued his defensive dominance with 11 rebounds.

Next Up

The Marauders will look to rebound on the road this coming weekend against Lakehead on Friday and Saturday. Tip-off  is set for 8PM both days.
