HAMILTON, Ont. - The McMaster Marauders women's basketball team faced a tough team in the TMU Bold, the defending U SPORTS National Champions, on Friday night at Burridge Gym.
In a back and forth battle, it was the home Marauders that came out on top, earning a 64-54 victory, McMaster's second straight win over the Bold.
The Marauders opened the game's scoring 20 seconds into the contest and led by as much as seven throughout the first quarter to take a 15-8 advantage into the second quarter.
In an evenly-matched second frame, TMU found its stride and outscored McMaster 17-15 to draw within five. But the Marauders maintained their composure, thanks in part to pulling in eight rebounds. At the halftime break, the maroon and grey led 30-25.
Both teams had their best scoring quarter in the third, combining for 39 points. The Bold went 3-for-8 from three point range to threaten the Marauder lead but McMaster added two deep shots of their own to hold the advantage headed into the final frame.
The Marauders shot 41.7% from the field in the closing ten minutes to ensure the home team secured the victory on home court. McMaster never trailed at any point during the 40 minutes of play and recorded 16 bench points.
Three Marauders hit double digits tonight led by

Amy Stinson (Hamilton, Ont,) scored 15 while
Jenna Button (Dundas, Ont.) recorded 10. McMaster knocked down six three-pointers for a 25% shooting percentage outside the arc and brought in 45 rebounds in the win.
