The McMaster Marauders men's soccer team took care of business in their season opener at Ron Joyce Stadium, defeating the Algoma Thunderbirds 7-0 on Saturday afternoon.

It took less than three minutes for the Marauders to get on the scoreboard with a quick-netted goal from third-year striker
Miles Green. Five minutes later, fifth-year striker
Dusan Kovacevic connected on a line shot that fell into the bottom left corner of the net off a set piece to put the Marauders up two – it was his first of four goals on the night.

The Marauders went into the break up two goals.

First-year forward from Lynden, Ont.,
Sachin Sergeant, got the scoring going in the second-half for the Marauders, followed by a trio of goals from Kovacevic who could not be contained by the Thunderbirds defence throughout the game.

Jordan Prescod made his presence known in the match as he notched the Marauders final goal to put the total tally to seven goals.

McMaster starting goalkeeper,
Tristan Joyce, made four saves to earn himself a clean sheet in his first appearance, while Algoma's Alex Burt was kept active all afternoon, making 13 saves in the match.

Dino Perri and his squad go up 1-0 on the season, and will look to build on their record tomorrow as both sides face-off again for their second of a back-to-back at 2:30 pm at Ron Joyce Stadium.
