NO. 10 MARAUDERS RETURN HOME TO DROP NO. 4 WARRIORS 34-12

The No. 10 nationally ranked McMaster Marauders football team picked up their first win of the season in an emphatic way with a 34-13 win over the No. 4 Waterloo Warriors.

Quarterback Andreas Dueck threw 28-for-33 for 355 yards and three touchdowns on the day. Liam Putt had a career game with a game-high 142 yards and two touchdowns, while Chase Arseneau caught his first career touchdown as a Marauder.

Fifth-year defensive back Nolan Putt recorded a team-high eight tackles, while defensive end Enoch Penney-Laryea recorded his second sack in as many games.

The Marauders returned to Ron Joyce Stadium for the first time in 700 days in any OUA competition and they did not disappoint. The Maroon opened the scoring on their first drive of the game, resulting in a Daniel Bosett touchdown just over five minutes into the frame.

On their next two drives, the Marauders put away a pair of field goals from Adam Preocanin – the first 39-yards deep, the second a 30-yard kick, to make the score 13-0 to end the first quarter.

The second quarter continued to look similar to the first, as the Marauders scored two more touchdowns – the first from Putt, the second from Arseneau. The Warriors finally made their way on to the scoreboard, but nothing more than a conceded safety by the Marauders after possession turned thanks to an interception by Josh Cumber.

Both teams entered halftime with the home team up 27-2.

The No. 4 Warriors mounted a challenge in the third quarter with a 10-yard touchdown by Rushon Dagelman – the Warriors only touchdown in the game – as they made good on the two-point conversion.

The Black & Gold followed their single touchdown closely with a field goal after the Marauders forced the visiting team to a third down following a first-down and inches scenario to tighten the score to 27-13.

In the fourth quarter, Putt grabbed his second touchdown of the game to put the score out of reach as the Marauders captured their first win of the season.

The Marauders now move to 1-1 on the season, in a dead-heat tie for second in the OUA West with four other teams. The Warriors continue to sit atop the division, but pick up their first loss of the season to fall to 2-1.

The No. 10 Marauders will hit the road again next week, as they take on the Windsor Lancers in week four at the University of Windsor Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 9th. Game time is schedule for 2pm.
