CALABRESE, MERRIMAN SCORE A BRACE APIECE AS MARAUDERS WIN 4-0

The McMaster Marauders women's soccer team kept their winning ways going on Friday evening after a 4-0 victory over the Laurentian Voyageurs at Ron Joyce Stadium.

Recording their first goals of the season, Emilie Calabrese and Georgia Merriman scored a brace each to account for all four Marauders goals.

The Voyageurs started the match aggressive, pressing the Marauders in their own half. Forcing a pair of saves by Marauders keeper Jayashree Pathak, Voyageurs striker Cass Armstrong was active on offense connecting on two strong shots.

But the deadlock broke in the 37th minute after a 35-yard strike by Calabrese from a free-kick soared over the Laurentian keeper and into the net. The rocket of a shot carried the Marauders into half-time up one goal.

But it didn't take long for the scoring to continue in the second. Halftime substitution, Merriman, doubled the Marauders lead five minutes into the second-half after an assisted pass by Delaney Vanderwater led her into the box. She buried the ball passed Voyageurs keeper Hunter Jones for her first of the season.

Merriman doubled her tally midway through the half, this time off an assist by Joelle Chackal as she made no mistake in front of the Voyageurs net.

Sealing the deal, Calabrese got her second of the night, and of her young season, after a through pass by Lindsey Barwitzki to close out the match.

Pathak recorded her second shutout of the season, as the Voyageurs fall to 0-2.

Head Coach Miranda Wiley's squad has yet to record a loss this season, as they go 3-0 to stay atop the OUA Central Division.

Up Next: The Marauders hit the road for the first time this season as they play the Voyageurs in Sudbury on Sunday to push their streak to four straight games. Kick-off is scheduled for 2pm.
