STINGY SECOND-HALF CARRIES MARAUDERS TO FIRST-ROUND WIN OVER BADGERS

Taking control from start to finish, the McMaster Marauders men's basketball team defeated the Brock Badgers 83-71 in the first-round of the Wilson Cup playoffs at home on Wednesday night.

The Badgers led as much as four points in tonight's match, going up 9-5 early in the first quarter, and relinquished their lead minutes later, ultimately never regaining it past the opening frame.

The Marauders closed out the quarter behind back-to-back three-pointers from Connor Gilmore and Maleik Gordon, that jump started an 8-2 run capped off by a Damiann Prehay dunk.

Holding the Badgers to just nine points in the following quarter, the Marauders forced five turnovers, ultimately holding the visitors to 28.6 percent shooting from the floor, including 0-5 from deep.

Jordan Henry opened the period scoring seven straight points for the home side, followed by a Kwasi Adu-Poku tip-in, and a Joshua Nardini three-pointer, assisted by a Mike Demagus cross court dime.

The offense kept coming for the Marauders as the story line was set in stone from then on. The two sides matched basket-for-basket going into the second half, with only one-point separating the two sides in both the third and fourth quarters combined.

The maroon could not be contained, shooting an impressive 47.8 percent from the floor all game, and connecting on 10-of-27 from three-point territory to go with a perfect 9-of-9 from the charity stripe.

Henry led all Marauders with 16 points shooting 6-9 from field-goal range, while Tristan Lindo, and Demagus held pace for their side, dropping 15 and 14 points, respectively.

Gilmore and Adu-Poku were a force on the boards for the maroon, grabbing 23 rebounds combined.

NEXT UP: With the win the Marauders advance to the quarterfinal stage of the Wilson Cup playoffs, and will take on the top-seeded Carleton Ravens on Saturday at 8pm in the nation's capital.
