PLAYOFF PUSH ENDS IN NATION’S CAPTIAL AS MARAUDERS FALL TO TOP RANKED RAVENS

The McMaster Marauders men's basketball team's season came to an unfortunate on Saturday night as the team fell to the No. 1 nationally ranked Carleton Ravens 108-64 on the road in their Wilson Cup quarterfinal match.

The Marauders held pace with the home team Ravens for much of the first-half, going up 8-7 early in the first quarter after back-to-back three pointers by Jordan Henry and Kwasi Adu-Poku.

The Ravens created some separation, but the maroon closed the first on a 7-4 run off of a pair of Damiann Prehay layups, and a Connor Gilmore three-pointer, ending the frame down 24-20.

The Ravens opened the second quarter on a 15-0 run that came to a halt after Henry drove in for a layup. The Marauders exchanged baskets to close out the second, in due part to Gilmore's aggression on the offensive end leading to 4-4 free throws, and a three-pointer following an offensive board.

The two teams settled for halftime, with the Ravens maintaining their lead with the score up 57-38, but the Ravens continued to outpace the Marauders to advance to the semi-final stages of the Wilson Cup.

The Marauders shot 33.3 percent from the floor, going 20-60 form field goal range all night, while Ravens outpaced the visitors shooting a lethal 58.6 percent.

Gilmore led the team with 16 points on 8-8 shooting from the free-throw line, while Henry added in 14 points along with six rebounds. Maleik Gordon and Prehay were important spakrs off the bench, contributing seven points apiece.

The Marauders bring a to a close a strong season that included a 9-2 run that started in October and poured into the new year.

Despite losing two major contributors in Gilmore and Prehay as they will be graduating this season, the Marauders young core could rise to the challenge next season, and build off this seasons outcome.
