STRONG FIRST HALF CARRIES MARAUDERS TO WIN OVER RIDGEBACKS

Firing on all cylinders, the McMaster Marauders women's basketball team could do wrong as they took care of business, defeating the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks 87-55 on Saturday night at the Burridge Gym.

The Marauders got off to a strong start in the first half behind third-year guard Sarah Gates 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting, on route to her team-high 16 points in the game. She was not alone in terms of production. Jenna Button and Julia Hanaka each added eight points apiece, combining for 6-10 on the floor in the first half.

Offensively, the Ridgebacks struggled to find an answer to the Marauders relentless press, being held to just seven points in the first quarter, and six in the second, heading into the halftime huddle down 40-13.

With the game in hand from then on, the Marauders shared the wealth of minutes equally, leading to four players coming away with double-digit points. First-year guard Tori Rigas-DiDomenico dropped a career-high 13, while Button and Hanaka went on to score 13, and 12 points, respectively.

The win gives the Marauders their third in four games, as they currently ride a two-game win streak keeping them in fourth place in the OUA Central division.

NEXT UP: The Marauders will head to Toronto to take on the No. 4 Ryerson Rams on Wednesday night, before heading back to the Burridge Gym next Saturday for their final home game of the regular season, against the York Lions.
