A clinical display from start to finish, the No. 5 nationally ranked McMaster Marauders volleyball team made quick work of the Trent Excalibur, coming away with the victory in straight sets at the Burridge Gym on Saturday night.
Loosening their rotation tonight, the Marauders had 11 different players touch the court by the end of the third set. None were more impactful than
Craig Ireland who kept pace for the home team throughout the match. Ireland accounted for 10 kills on 25 total attacks, including four digs and one block, helping the Marauders take the first set convincingly 25-17.
Momentum shifted slightly for the Excalibur during the second set after they managed to take a 14-10 lead. The Marauders however would go on a 5-1 run off the serves of Josh Ecklund that included an ace, and a kill from Ireland. With the set on the line, and the score stuck at 18-17, Matt Passalent made his first appearance and did not disappoint.
Picking up an assist, as well as six kills in minimal action, Passalent made his presence known securing the match from that point onward.
The No. 5 nationally ranked Marauders now move to 9-1 on the season with their seventh straight victory, holding top spot in the OUA West division, while the Excalibur fall to 0-10 in the OUA East.
NEXT UP: The Marauders will hit the road next weekend to take on the Guelph Gryphons and the No. 7 Brock Badgers.
