Marauders Power to Second Straight Sweep of Thunderwolves

Rebecca Maxwell led the way with eight kills for the hosts Saturday

A night after delivering a rare triple serving of pizza to the Lakehead Thunderwolves, the Marauders were more measured in another sweep of their northern visitors at Burridge Gym Saturday.

McMaster rolled to its third consecutive conference win, and second since resuming OUA play Friday, with a 25-15-25-13, 25-15 victory over Lakehead to sweep the teams' two-match series. With the result, the Marauders improved to 6-4 on the season.

Despite suffering a slight drop in efficiency from the high of Friday, Mac still managed to hit .250 as a team in Saturday's win, while holding Lakehead to -.098 with 26 errors and just 17 kills.

Rebecca Maxwell continued her impressive move to the left side with a faultless night on offence, and knocked down eight kills from 15 hitting attempts without an error. Her team's leading point-getter was middle Kamila Haase, who chipped in seven kills while adding four aces and a solo block for 12 points.

Rookie setter Nikolina Malic averaged nearly 10 assists per set in the win, after racking up 26 over the course of the straight-setter, while Maxwell and right side Jessie Nairn were the Marauders defensive stalwarts with matching totals of 10 digs.

NEXT UP: The Marauders remain at home for a match against the no. 2-ranked Ryerson Rams on Friday, January 17. That match gets underway at 6:00 p.m. and can be seen live and on demand on OUA.tv.
