Marauders Blow Out Thunderwolves in Straight Sets to Resume OUA Season

McMaster held Lakehead to just 13 earned points in Friday’s win

Restarting their conference season on home court Friday, the Marauders got their second term off to a dream start with a lopsided win over the Lakehead Thunderwolves.

McMaster swept aside its visitors in just over an hour, with a 25-8, 25-6, 25-9 victory that improved the Marauders to 5-4 in conference play and marked their second consecutive OUA win dating back to November 2019.

Statistics painted a rosy picture for the home side, as Mac hit .371 as a team in the win and committed just seven errors across three sets while notching 33 kills. By comparison, the Marauders held the Thunderwolves to -.171 Friday, with just eight kills against 21 errors.

Earning more kills that the entire Lakehead roster on the night, all-star right side Jessie Nairn killed nine of 15 attempts with just one error (.533), while adding two aces and a solo block for a match high of 12 points.

On the opposite wing, Rebecca Maxwell also enjoyed a sterling offensive outing, with seven kills from 13 attempts versus one error (.462) and added four aces for 11 points. The converted setter also imposed herself on the defensive side, with a match high of 11 digs.
