Men's Basketball: Henry Stays Hot to Lead Marauders Past Badgers 74-72

The second-year guard followed a career night Saturday with 26 points Wednesday in St. Catharines

help the Marauders to a thrilling 74-72 win over the Brock Badgers.

The last of those points, a made free throw with just 10 seconds to play, proved to be the winner as the Marauders denied the Badgers on the defensive end to seal an important divisional win and move to 2-1 on the season.

Henry shot 10 of 18 from the field and two of six from three-point range in the win, while hitting four of five efforts from the charity stripe. He added six rebounds, one assist and one steal.

Veteran forward Connor Gilmore had a double double and crucially found his offensive touch in the second half, with 10 of his 13 points coming on three of six shooting after the break.

Trailing 40-37 through two quarters, the Marauders pulled to within two points when Josh Nardini drained a pair of free throws for 51-49 with 3:02 to play in the third. But the Badgers responded with an 11-4 run to end the quarter, and enjoyed their largest lead of the night at the buzzer, after a Noah Lapierre triple for 62-53.

Rather than shrink at the challenge ahead, McMaster found its most cohesive quarter of the night when it was needed most, and outscored Brock 21-10 over the final 10 minutes to snatch victory.

A jumper from Henry with 5:55 to play pulled Mac within two at 66-64, and sent Brock reeling to a timeout. Instead of stemming the Marauders momentum, the break reinforced it, as the visitors got a stop defensively and tied the game when Tristan Lindo made a third chance count underneath.

Another miss from the Badgers opened the door, and the Marauders walked through it when Henry pulled down the resulting board and drained a three for a 69-66 lead.

Brock managed to knot the game at 72 in the final minute when Tyler Brown punished a McMaster turnover, but Henry got his chance at the line and made one of two to restore the lead for the final time.

NEXT UP: McMaster heads to Buffalo on Saturday, November 2 to take on the NCAA's Canisius College in an international exhibition at 12:00 p.m.
