Women's Soccer: Bosveld's Late Strike Salvages a Point for Mac at Windsor

The Marauders remained unbeaten through four matches Saturday

A see-saw encounter in Windsor had the Marauders three-match unbeaten run to open the 2018 season in jeopardy Saturday, before a final, dramatic breakthrough saw it salvaged late on.

Trading goals throughout the afternoon, McMaster and Windsor settled for a 2-2 draw after Lindsay Bosveld struck the equalizer in the 85th minute. The result kept the Marauders atop the OUA West standings at 2-0-2, level on points with the Western Mustangs.

Through two weeks of play, McMaster's eight goals is the most scored by any team in the OUA, while their plus-five differential ties the OUA East-leading Ottawa Gee-Gees for the conference's best.

McMaster faced an uphill battle after conceding in just the fifth minute of play, as Windsor's Lea Pentney found the back of the net to open the scoring and set the stage for the drama to come.

Already the conference's leading goal scorer entering play Saturday, Marauders forward Stephanie Roberts added a fifth marker on the young season in the 31st minute to bring her team level, but saw McMaster pegged back almost immediately.

Kaylea Cunliffe restored the Lancers lead mere moments later, one that the home side successfully carried into the halftime break.

Despite no shortage of shots on target, the Marauders were running out of time to craft their necessary second goal, when Bosveld managed to provide the decisive touch in the 85th minute.

That proved all that McMaster needed, as the visitors saw out the remaining five-plus minutes of play to record the point and maintain their unbeaten run through a difficult southwestern road swing.

NEXT UP: The Marauders return home to Ron Joyce Stadium on Friday, September 7 for a 6:00 p.m. clash with the York Lions.
