Women's Basketball: Gates Leads with 24 as McMaster Races Past Nipissing 91-44

The second-year guard enjoyed a career night in North Bay

A career night for second-year guard Sarah Gates led the way, as the #3 Marauders rolled to yet another lopsided win Friday in North Bay.

Gates was a sizzling nine of 12 from the field, and six of eight from three-point range, to achieve a new career single-game high with 24 points in her team's 91-44 demolition of the Nipissing Lakers.

Even while missing Christina Buttenham, McMaster was dominant in the first half of their northern road swing, which will continue in Sudbury Saturday.

Forward Linnaea Harper had 19 points on seven of 13 shooting, while Erin Burns (11) and Julia Hanaka (10) also cracked double digits.

McMaster was red-hot from three-point range in the winning effort, hitting 15 of 32 attempts from three (46.9 per cent), with Gates providing the high water mark.

Leading from the opening minute of the game, the Marauders never relinquished the advantage, and enjoyed their largest period of dominance in the second quarter, outscoring the Lakers by 23 points in the frame and allowing just four points against.

NEXT UP: The road trip continues for the Marauders Saturday, with a visit to the Laurentian Voyageurs in Sudbury. That game will get underway at 6:00 p.m. and be available live on OUA.tv.
