Men's Volleyball: Blistering Marauders Offence Buries #5 Lancers in Straight Sets

McMaster has won six consecutive sets to open the OUA season

Facing an early-season battle against one of the toughest challengers for their OUA crown, the McMaster Marauders laid down a statement match on the road Sunday.

The U SPORTS #3-ranked Marauders handily defeated the #5 Windsor Lancers in straight sets, moving to 2-0 on the season and advancing through a second match day without dropping a set in the process.

Windsor stood as the only other OUA team ranked inside the national top 10, but posed little threat to a rampant McMaster attack Sunday.

Hitting a blistering .382 as a group, the Marauders racked up 48 kills versus just 14 errors on the afternoon, with setter David Doty pulling in 40 assists in just three sets of work.

Reigning OUA West Player of the Year Andrew Richards was nigh-untouchable in the win, with 17 kills versus just two errors on 27 touches (.556), adding three aces and a block and a half for a match high 21.5 points.

His exceptional offensive day was complemented by that of right side Nathan Delguidice, who followed a breakout performance in McMaster's season opener by hitting .306 with 19 kills and an ace for 20 points, and added a team high of 10 digs for good measure.

Sunday saw both teams fire well on offence, with the Lancers nearly keeping pace at a .314 clip as a group and Pierce Johnson enjoying a standout, 20-kill effort.

But it was too little overtake the Marauders on the day, whose firepower guided them to a convincing road win.

NEXT UP: McMaster returns home to the Burridge Gym to play its home opener against the Queen's Gaels on Friday, November 9. That match is slated for first serve at 8:00 p.m. pending the conclusion of the preceding women's match.
