Women's Basketball: Harper's Double Double Helps #3 Mac to Another Blowout Win

McMaster has averaged a 23-point margin of victory through three games

After watching her long-time teammate Hilary Hanaka steal the spotlight in McMaster's opening week, Linnaea Harper reminded fans of her own potency Friday.

The senior forward exploded for 26 points and 10 rebounds to lead the U SPORTS #3-ranked Marauders to a convincing 81-62 win over the Brock Badgers in St. Catharines.

With the win, McMaster moved to a perfect 3-0 on the young OUA season, and continued its dominant play against divisional competition. In those three wins, the Marauders have averaged a margin of victory of 23 points, and rarely been threatened by opponents.

Harper was the most efficient Marauder on a night that saw the team shoot 43 per cent as a group, while holding the Badgers to just 25 per cent on 20 of 80 from the floor. The forward knocked down 11 of her 19 shots from the floor, including two of six from three-point range, and was two of three from the charity stripe.

Fellow forward Christina Buttenham was the only other Marauder to crack double digits in points, making two of six attempts from three-point range and ultimately ending the night with 10 points.

Brock took the first lead of the game with the first bucket at the 8:12 mark of the opening quarter, but that proved to be their last of the night, as McMaster proceeded to outscore the hosts 26-13 in the quarter and not look back from there.

NEXT UP: The Marauders remain on the road for a northern swing in a week's time, as McMaster heads to North Bay to battle the Nipssing Lakers on Friday, November 9 before moving to Sudbury to visit the Laurentian Voyageurs the following night.
