Men's Basketball: Marauders Overwhelmed by #2 Rams, Fall 102-70

McMaster led in the first quarter before Ryerson took flight Friday

A feisty opening to the first quarter gave fans at Burridge Gym hope that the Marauders could spring a surprise on the U SPORTS #2-ranked Ryerson Rams Friday.

But the visitors found their stride midway through the first and cruised from there, en route to a 102-70 win.

The victory improved the Rams to 6-0 on the season, while the Marauders suffered their third consecutive loss and fell to 3-3.

McMaster 19-17 with three minutes to play in the first quarter, before watching Ryerson reel off a 10-0 run and establish a lead that the home side was unable to reel in.

The highlight for the Marauders on an otherwise difficult night was the offensive showing by rookie wing Brandon Bernard, whose 14 points was tied for the team lead with veteran guard David McCulloch, and established a career high.

Bernard scored those 14 points in 20 minutes on the floor, hitting five of 11 shots from the field and four of his eight attempts from three-point range.

NEXT UP: McMaster will look to rebound Saturday when the Marauders play host to the Toronto Varsity Blues at Burridge Gym. Tip off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
