Women's Soccer: Marauders Finish Fourth at U SPORTS Championship

McMaster conceded the game's only goal in the 48th minute

Unable to turn an abundance of build up play into consistent chances in front of goal, the Marauders were eventually victimized Sunday, and forced to settle for fourth at the U SPORTS Championship in Ottawa.

Despite directing 15 shots on goal over the 90-minute contest, McMaster struggled to create danger for its opposition, and was hit on the other end for the game's only goal in the 48th minute, falling 1-0 to Cape Breton in the national bronze medal match.

Lindsay Bosveld was named as McMaster's Player of the Match, accounting for five of those shots on the afternoon.

Her best opportunity to get the Marauders on the board and fire them into a lead came in the 40th minute, when she controlled with her back to goal, turned and fired a low shot that pinged off the far post and bounced clear.

That proved to be the team's clearest chance on goal, as many of McMaster's moves ended in long-range efforts from well outside the penalty area, and were duly handled with ease by goalkeeper Rachel Yerxa.

The Marauders were penalized for that approach when the Capers took the lead in the 48th minute, as forward Rachel Leck was first to the corner kick and nodded past goalkeeper Juliana Hifawi.

That proved to be the game's only goal, as an otherwise successful season for McMaster came to a close on a losing note.
