Coming back to earth from the high of their midweek beatdown of the Windsor Lancers, the Marauders men's basketball team came up against stiff opposition Saturday.
Brock, ranked third in the country, defeated the Marauders 89-73 in front of a loud crowd at Burridge Gym.
Taking on the nationally-ranked Brock Badgers Saturday afternoon, the Marauders kept on the heels of the Badgers but it would ultimately be points in the paint that would be the deciding factor, as Brock would outscore the Marauders 42-22 inside the key.
Being Brock's first game in nearly a month due to the holiday break, the Badgers found the Marauders nipping close in just about all statistical categories at game's end.
Leading the charge for the Badgers were Cassidy Ryan and Dani Elgadi.
Ryan put up 23 points for Brock. He would prove too much to handle for the Marauders as he came up big hauling down five offensive rebounds.
Elgadi led the Badgers with 24 points off 9-of-14 from the field. Elgadi would also be a key contributor in the rebounding game as he finshed the game with a combined 12 rebounds.
For the Marauders, Sasha Simic led the squad with 16 points from 6-18 shooting, while also adding five rebounds and five assists.
Fouls hurt McMaster late in the fourth quarter as three of their five starters would foul out and put any chance of an upset out of sight.
With the loss, the Marauders fall to 2-9 on the season, while the Badgers improve to a 9-2 record. Their two losses coming against Carleton and Ottawa, their last two games before the winter break.
The Marauders will be back in action on Wednesday, January 10, when they travel to Waterloo to take on the Warriors. The Warriors currently sit at 4-7, placing them in fourth in the OUA West Division.
That game is set to begin at 8 p.m. and can be streamed live on OUA.tv.
