MEN'S BASKETBALL: MARAUDERS BOUNCE BACK OVER MEMORIAL

Box Score The McMaster men's basketball team got down early, but fought back to beat the Memorial Seahawks 92-77 Saturday night in the Burridge Gym.

Perhaps suffering from a hangover from the previous night's loss to Laval, the Marauders came out flat and Memorial was on fire from long range.  The Seahawks nailed  6 of 9 from beyond the arc and took a commanding 33-17 lead after the opening 10 minutes.

The second quarter saw Memorial cool off and McMaster picked up its defence and slowly started to cut into the deficit.  McMaster made four treys in the stanza and by halftime, the lead for the visitors was down to a single point at 41-40.

McMaster kept up the pressure to start the third quarter and Coach Patrick Tatham went deep into his bench to keep fresh legs on the floor.  Miles Seward keyed a McMaster run that saw the Marauders take a 63-52 lead into the fourth quarter.

Behind some stellar long range shooting from Daniel Gordan, Memorial tried to mount a comeback, but the closest the Seahawks could get was seven points at 74-67.  McMaster then scored the next six points to make it 80-67 and deflate the team from Newfoundland.

The Marauders were led by Matt Quiring, who dropped 17 as part of a very balanced Mac attack.  Miles Seward and David McCulloch each scored 14, while Marko Grahovac and Josh Nardini each came off the bench to score career highs, with 15 and 13 points respectively.  Memorial got a game-high 28 points from Daniel Gordon, who made 7 of 12 from long distance.

The Marauders will travel to the University of Calgary tournament next week in Alberta, before returning home to face the Saint Mary's Huskies on October 12th.  Marauder Basketball season tickets are now on sale and can be purchased online at the LINK.
