Men's Soccer: Ricciuti and Kovacevic Fire Marauders Past Mustangs 3-0

McMaster gained revenge for a road loss to Western earlier in September, while moving to 7-2.

Revenge was served by a Marauder offence in full flight Sunday, as McMaster repaid their loss to Western earlier in September with a 3-0 beating of the Mustangs at Ron Joyce Stadium.

The three-goal output matched that of a day earlier for McMaster (7-2), who notched their fourth consecutive win and dispatched a bitter divisional rival in the process.

Sasha Ricciuti and Dusan Kovacevic kept up their battle atop the Marauders goal charts, with the veteran winger Ricciuti scoring once and Kovacevic potting two, to draw level for the team's goal lead on the season with six total.

Goalkeeper Jesse DiDomenico was alert when needed on a scorchingly-hot day at Ron Joyce Stadium, saving all three of the shots he faced for Mac's third clean sheet of the year.

Wasting little time in putting the visitors on their heels, Ricciuti struck in just the eighth minute, on an assist from first-year teammate Anand Sergeant.

Things worsened for the Mustangs when a pretty give-and-go play saw the Marauders slash through their opponents' back line and Kovacevic lash in his first goal of the afternoon to double Mac's lead in the 43rd minute.

The break did little to improve Western's fortunes, as McMaster remained firmly on the front foot in the second half.

Their control of the scene culminated Kovacevic's second goal, when Matt Monteiro chipped neatly for the striker to head in from close range in the 59th minute.

NEXT UP: McMaster looks to sweep the season series with Laurier, as the Marauders travel to Waterloo to battle the Golden Hawks on Friday, September 29 at 3:00 p.m.
