Women's Volleyball: Mac Outclasses Queen's to Keep Pace in OUA West Race

Marauders stay level with Western atop division at 15-3 with the win.

Box Score Keeping pace atop the OUA West, the Marauders notched an important win Friday in clean and convincing fashion. Mac swept the Queen's Gaels (25-19, 25-18, 25-11) to move to 15-3 and match the Western Mustangs for the top record in the division.

Joanna Jedrzejewska led the Marauders with 13.5 points, while Maicee Sorensen added 10.5 of her own. Libero Carly Heath finished with 14 digs and Caitlin Genovy assisted on 28 of the Marauders 50 points.

For the Gaels, Caroline Livingston was able to rack up 10 of Queen's 31 points.

Both teams ranked fairly evenly in just about all statistical categories heading into the matchup, despite the two teams' difference in win-loss record. After being fairly close heading into the technical timeout, McMaster was able to pull away and take the first set 25-19.

Queen's showed glimpses of being able to compete with the highly-ranked Marauders squad, but gradually wore down as the match went on.

Despite having more kills than the Marauders in the opening set, it was Queen's eight attack errors that proved costly. Errors continued to be an issue for the Gaels throughout the match, as they finished with 19 and hit .062 against McMaster.

The Marauders were able to consistently generate offence, and mustered a .305 hitting percentage through three sets. All four of the seniors honoured prior to the match all put forward stellar performances.

The Marauders have one match remaining in their regular season schedule tomorrow night against RMC at 6 p.m. McMaster close out their season at home inside Burridge Gym before returning the following week for OUA quarterfinal action as the Marauders look to begin their playoff run.
