Box Score Playing the perennial champion Carleton Ravens is always a tough challenge, and the McMaster men's basketball team found that out the hard way, losing an 83-40 contest in Hamilton Friday night.
The 40 points scored tied the McMaster team record for the fewest points scored in a game, set back in 1988 versus Laurier.
Top-ranked in Canada, Carleton showed why by bolting out to a 14-4 lead off the opening tip. The Marauders never really recovered, and the Ravens continued the onslaught for all four quarters.
McMaster shot a chilly 26% from the floor, including going 4 of 27 (15%) from beyond the arc. Carleton made 49% of its shots from the floor and made 12 of 32 (38%) from long range. The Ravens also dominated the glass, out-rebounding the Maroon 52-33.
Despite Carleton's penchant for physical defense, McMaster did not make an attempt from the charity stripe for the entire game. It may be the first time in team history that the Marauders did not even attempt a free-throw.  In a classic case of the officials "letting them play", Carleton only went to the line four times, making 1 of 4 free throws for the game.
McMaster will try to snap its current losing skid on Saturday night, when the Ottawa Gee-Gees come to Hamilton. Game time in the Burridge Gym is scheduled for 8-pm.
