Box Score McMaster's women's basketball team continued to dominate their competition on Friday night, as they defeated the York Lions 81-40 in Hamilton. The win moves McMaster to 11-1 in OUA play.
McMaster had a hot start, beginning the game on a 7-0 run. York was able to get on the scoreboard but Mac kept piling on, giving them a 23-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Marauders went on a 9-2 run early in the second quarter, forcing York to call a timeout. McMaster kept up the pressure after the timeout, holding York to just eight points in the quarter, and the Maroon went into halftime leading 49-19.
Olivia Wilson finished the half with 12 points on 6-6 from the field. McMaster knocked down half of their three-pointers in the half (7 of 14), while holding York to just 21% shooting overall.
McMaster continued their three-point barrage in the second half, knocking two triples down in the first minute of the third quarter. By the end of the third, Mac carried a healthy 38-point lead going into the final frame.
Both teams slowed down in the fourth quarter, but with Mac already far ahead they coasted to a 41-point victory.
Top shooter for McMaster was Vanessa Pickard, who scored 16 points in the game, filling in for Linnaea Harper in the starting lineup. Danielle Boiago chipped in 14, while Olivia Wilson did well in the sixth woman role adding in 14 points and four boards off the bench.
The Marauders will next host Queen's University in a match-up of teams ranked in the top five of the U Sports rankings. Tip off on Saturday is at 6-pm.
