Box Score The McMaster women's basketball team played 40 minutes of hard defense and got a solid effort from the entire roster to dominate the Nipissing Lakers 85-26 in Hamilton Friday night.
Prior to the game, the Marauders made a special presentation to Danielle Boiago, who became the team's all-time OUA scoring leader, with former record-holder Taylor Chiarot on hand to help Coach Theresa Burns with the presentation.
The Marauders set the tone early by winning the opening quarter 24-11 and held the Lakers to single digits in every subsequent period as they rolled to the victory.
Leading 40-16 at the half, McMaster could have taken its foot off the gas, but the Marauders held Nipissing to a single basket in the third quarter to take a 61-18 lead. Playing with the big margin allowed McMaster to use all 12 players and the team substituted liberally for the whole contest.
The Marauder defense forced the Lakers into 35 turnovers, snared 18 steals, and dominated the rebounding by 48-32. Danielle Boiago scored 19 points in just 23 minutes to lead McMaster, while Clare Kenney with 14, Andrea Polischuk with 11, and 10 each from Rachael Holmes and Erin Burns paced the Mac scoring parade. Nipissing got a 12-point game from Jamie Soffer.
McMaster will next play host to the Laurentian Voyageurs on Saturday night with tip-off set for 6-PM. The Marauders will recognize their graduating players in a ceremony following the game.
