WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: MARAUDERS DEFEAT GEE-GEES

Box Score The McMaster women's basketball team started its weekend trip to the nation's capital with a win, defeating the Ottawa Gee-Gees 69-50 on Friday night.

The Marauders saw starting post Clare Kenney pick up two early fouls to start the game, forcing her to the bench for most of the first quarter.   Despite the loss of Kenney, the Maroon battled to a 15-15 tie after 10 minutes of play.

McMaster opened the second quarter with a 10-0 run, forcing Ottawa to call a timeout.  The Gee-Gees were able to chisel down the Mac lead, but the Marauders took a 31-26 margin into the intermission.

Coming out hot after the break, McMaster scored the first eight points of the quarter and by the end of the third the lead had grown to 51-36.

The fourth quarter saw the Marauders go up by 20 at 63-43, which was the largest lead of the game.  Rotating a steady stream of fresh legs onto the floor, McMaster kept pushing the pace.  The closest Ottawa could get was 13 but the tank was running dry for the Garnet & Grey and McMaster closed out the victory.

Linnaea Harper scored 22 to lead the Mac attack with Danielle Boiago adding 20 and Rachael Holmes 14.

The Marauders will now prepare to face the Carleton Ravens on Saturday night with tip-off at 6-pm.
