WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: MARAUDERS EDGE BROCK IN OVERTIME

Box Score The McMaster women's basketball team rallied from a 15-point fourth quarter deficit to force overtime and then completed the comeback with a 94-90 victory over the Brock Badgers on Saturday afternoon in St.Catharines.

Having already lost to McMaster 10 days before in Hamilton, it was a fired-up bunch of Badgers that took the court, looking to upset the top-ranked team in  the nation. Brock took a 42-35 lead into the intermission and extended the advantage to 64-53 by the end of the third quarter.

With eight minutes left in the game, the Badgers held a 70-55 lead and it looked like the upset was going to happen.

But that was the point when Marauder Danielle Boiago took over the game.  The All-Canadian guard scored 15 points over the last eight minutes of the contest to power a Marauder revival.   McMaster evened the score 79-79 on a jumper by Linnaea Harper with just 43 seconds left.  Brock had a last look at a game-winning shot, but Boiago blocked the attempt by Brock's Melissa Tatti and the final buzzer sounded.

In overtime it was Harper who got hot, scoring the first six points to put McMaster in front.  Brock kept it close but some clutch free throws by Erin Burns and Hilary Hanaka down the stretch allowed the Marauders to take the win.

Boiago had a sensational game, finishing with a career-high 39 points, including 27 in the second-half.  She also had 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, and the game-saving block at the end of regulation time.   Linnaea Harper was terrific too, as she scored 21 and grabbed 11 rebounds for the double-double; she also hit the shot to force overtime and then got Mac rolling in the OT.  The Brock tandem of Bridget Atkinson and Kira Cornelisson both scored 25 in strong efforts to pull off the upset.

The Marauders will next head to the nation's capital for games at Ottawa and Carleton on December 2 & 3.  Those game will be streamed online at OUA.tv.
