MEN'S BASKETBALL: MARAUDERS EDGED BY BADGERS

Box Score For the second time in 10 days the McMaster men's basketball team went right down to the wire with the Brock Badgers, but for the second time the Marauders came up short, losing a 76-73 decision on Saturday afternoon in St.Catharines.  The loss drops McMaster's record to 3-2 in the OUA Central, while Brock goes to 4-0.

Just like their previous encounter in Hamilton, the two teams played a tight, hotly contested game, but it was the Badgers who made the big plays at crunch time.

Brock held a narrow 38-37 advantage at halftime, but a strong third quarter saw McMaster take a 56-48 lead into the final 10 minutes.

The fourth quarter saw the loud, partisan crowd help the Badgers start their comeback and behind Johneil Simpson, who scored 13 straight points, Brock was able to get back in front at 63-61.  The teams then traded the lead back and forth, until a key Badger block in the final minute, followed by a Mac foul allowed Brock to extend the lead to three points. McMaster had a final opportunity to try and send the game into overtime, but the play to spring a shooter for a game-tying 3-point attempt failed.

The win allows the Badgers to sweep the season series with the Marauders.

McMaster got 13 from both Rohan Boney and Chris Thompson to lead the attack, while Simpson had a game-high 20 for Brock.

As in the first loss to Brock, McMaster will look to its free-throw shooting as a key factor as the Marauders only made 16 of 30 (53%) from the charity stripe, while Brock shot 16 of 19. (84%)

McMaster will now travel to Ottawa for games on December 2 & 3 versus the University of Ottawa and Carleton.  Those games will be available on OUA.tv.
