The season came full circle for the Marauders Sunday, as they snatched victory, and OUA bronze, from the Western Mustangs in London. After winning their opener in London in September, McMaster returned to the scene for the conference bronze medal game and delivered another defeat to their long-time rivals, beating the Mustangs 25-7.
Sunday's result marked a measure of revenge for the Marauders, who finished fourth with a loss to the Mustangs at the same stage a season ago. In all, McMaster had lost three consecutive bronze medal games before the 2016 edition.
That trend is no more, as tries from Mike Smith, Mike Waldock and Mitch Richardson helped McMaster to a convincing victory. Newly crowned OUA Rookie of the Year, Will Kelly was in top form Sunday, leading his team with 10 points from two penalty goals and two converts.
Sunday's victory was Mac's first over Western in a playoff tilt since the 2010 OUA championship.
