WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: MARAUDERS SWEEP THUNDERWOLVES

Box Score It was a much closer score than the previous night, but the McMaster women's basketball team did enough to complete the northern sweep with a 73-66 win over the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Saturday night in Thunder Bay.

The Marauders got a great effort from Hilary Hanaka, who paced the team with 18 points on 6 of 9 shooting, including four treys from long range.

McMaster only lead 34-32 at halftime, but won both of the final two quarters against the gritty Thunderwolves, who played a much better game than on Friday.

Marauders Rachael Holmes and Siobhan Manning each scored 14, in support of Hanaka's big game, while top scorer Danielle Boiago had trouble finding the range again and finished with six points, well below her average.  Lakehead was led by Katelyn Andrea, who scored a game-high 24, while grabbing 10 rebounds.

Being able to take two at Lakehead, with Boiago held in check, has to be a confidence booster for the Marauders as other players stepped up to make big plays.

McMaster improves to 10 and 3, good for first-place in the OUA Central Division. Lakehead falls to 4 and 7 and is in fourth-place in the Central.

The Marauders will now enjoy a rare bye weekend, and prepare for games versus Ottawa and Carleton on February 12 and 13, 2016.
