WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: MARAUDERS HANDLE THE WARRIORS

Box Score The McMaster women's basketball team opened the New Year with a convincing win by defeating the Waterloo Warriors 86-40 in Waterloo on Wednesday night.

There was some buzz in Waterloo's Physical Activities Complex heading into the game, as the facility unveiled the new bleachers and other renovations installed over the holiday break, and the Warriors nailed a three-pointer on their first shot of the game to commemorate the occasion.

But the Marauders proceeded to wipe out the early deficit quickly and unleashed a balanced attack that put the Warriors on their heels.  McMaster held leads of 21-11 after one quarter and 36-17 by the halftime intermission.

Playing with a comfortable lead allowed McMaster to keep fresh legs on the floor and the lead grew to 57-29 after three quarters.

Continuing to push the tempo in the fourth quarter the Marauders ran the lead up to over 40 points, while able to spread out the playing time right to the final buzzer.

McMaster had four players score in double figures led by Danielle Boiago with 18, Hilary Hanaka with 16, Clare Kenney with 13, and Rachael Holmes with 11.  Kenney also grabbed 15 boards to lead in rebounding and register the double-double. Top scorer for the Warriors was Kristen Osborne with 13.

The Marauders improve to 6 and 2 and remain in first-place in the OUA Central.  Next McMaster action is a tough road game at Laurier on Saturday with tip-off set for 1-pm.
