Mere days after opening their OUA season with an impressive home win, the Marauders travelled to Toronto and doubled their win total in emphatic fashion on Saturday. Nine different McMaster players had tries, as the Marauders demolished the Varsity Blues en route to a 67-3 victory.
Jamie Leveridge had a try and a total of 15 points, while Richard Ormrod and Matt Nichol each crossed the end line twice. Qutaiba Al Nimer, Sean Lau, Eric Lickers, Mitch Richardson, Matt Bendia and Callum Macleay all had single tries to their names on the day.
Scoring opened early for the Marauders, as Leveridge struck for the game's first try just three minutes into the afternoon, making good on his resulting kick to push Mac ahead 7-0. Toronto's stingiest period of defence followed, as the Blues held out for 26 minutes before Ormrod crossed the end line for his first try to double the visitors' lead.
That's when the offensive floodgates opened, and after Toronto got its only points on the board through a penalty in the 32nd minute, Mac's Sean Lau scored the team's third try five minutes later and Leveridge's convert gave the visitors a 21-3 lead. Callum Macleay added his name to the score sheet four minutes into the second half, and Ormrod secured his second try fin the 51st minute as McMaster put the game beyond doubt.
Tries followed in quick succession for Al Nimer, Lickers, Bendia and Richardson, while Nichol touched down twice in the span of just eight minutes for a quickfire double to cap the offensive explosion.
McMaster returns to action in a week's time, when the Marauders travel to London to take on the always-formidable Western Mustangs on Saturday, September 19.
