The McMaster women's basketball team made its first trip to Algoma University and defeated the host Thunderbirds 82-32 on Saturday night in Sault St. Marie.
The home team scored the first basket of the game, but it was all Maroon after that as top-ranked McMaster was in front 27-9 after one quarter and 48-19 at the intermission.
Having a comfortable lead allowed Marauder coach AnneMarie Thuss to spread out the playing time, among the entire dress roster.
The Marauders started the third quarter on a 13-0 run to get the lead to 42 points, and leaving no doubt about the decision. By the end of the third quarter, the Mac margin was 65-23.
The fourth quarter saw the Marauder bench get some extended minutes, and the starters got some rest, which could be vital with a tough opponent waiting in their next game.
McMaster got a 27-point game from Danielle Boiago to lead the attack, while Clare Kenney added 20 and Ally Schweitzer chipped in 11.
The Marauders will now return home and next face the Ryerson Rams, who are ranked No. 4 in the national top-ten, on Wednesday, November 11 with tip-off set for 6 p.m.
