MARAUDERS CAP SENIOR’S DAY WITH BIG WIN

Box Score It was senior recognition day for the McMaster women's basketball team and with five graduating players to honour, the Maroon came up with a 77-43 victory over the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday afternoon to send them off with a win.

The five Marauders moving on include: Stephanie Truelove, Liz Burns, Jaklynn Nimec, Vanessa Bonomo, and Hailey Milligan.

It was too much Milligan for Waterloo to handle in the early going as the Marauder post dominated the paint, helping McMaster open a 23-11 lead after the first quarter.

The Marauders continued to push the tempo in the second quarter and got a nice lift off the bench from Rachael Holmes, who knocked down four of six shots and scored nine points. Mac outscored the Warriors 19-10 in the quarter to double up the score to 42-21 at the intermission.

Playing with a comfortable lead allowed McMaster to spread out the playing time with all 12 Marauders getting some minutes. The third quarter saw Waterloo play better and some Mac foul trouble allowed them to keep the deficit pretty even, before Vanessa Bonomo scored seven points on two jumpers and a three-pointer to close out the quarter and the lead had ballooned to 64-35.

With both teams going deep into their benches in the fourth quarter, the Marauders were able to get the lead over 30 and keep it there. With less than three minutes left, Marauder coach Theresa Burns put her five graduating seniors back on the floor so they could close out their last OUA conference game together.

Top shooter for McMaster was Milligan, who finished with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Danielle Boiago was the only other player in double digits with 10 points as the scoring was well spread out among the Marauders. Madison Behr scored 10 to lead the Warriors.

McMaster finishes conference play with a 13-9 record, good for 4th-place in the OUA West division. The Marauders will now prepare to play Lakehead in a first-round OUA playoff game on Wednesday, February 19th at 6 p.m.
