Box Score The McMaster women's basketball team used a strong second-half to defeat the Western Mustangs 65-51 in London On Wednesday night. Under the new OUA schedule, it is the only meeting between these long-time rivals this season.
The Marauders held a 12-11 lead after one quarter, and bumped up their advantage to 26-23 by halftime, as neither team shot the ball particularly well.
The third quarter proved decisive as McMaster outscored the Mustangs 24 to 13 to grab a 50-36 lead heading to the final stanza.
McMaster mixed up its defense in the fourth quarter, showing Western some zone and it seemed to confuse the Mustangs as the Marauders managed to get some steals, while not allowing any second shot opportunities. The biggest lead was 65-46, with Western only able to cut the deficit by five points in the final minutes.
Top shooter was Danielle Boiago, who had a double-double with 18 and 10 rebounds. Clare Kenney added 17 and Hilary Hanaka 12 for the Marauders. Linnaea Harper scored 8 points, and was solid on the boards with 12 rebounds. Western was led by Maddy Horst, who scored 16.
McMaster improves its OUA record to 6 and 1 and sits first in the Central Division. The Marauders will make the tough trip to Windsor to play the Lancers on Saturday, November 29
th in the final game before the exam break.
