The McMaster basketball teams resume OUA conference action this weekend with a pair of games versus the visiting Lakehead Thunderwolves. Doubleheaders on both Friday and Saturday night will start at 6 p.m. with the women's game, followed by the men's contest at 8 p.m.
The Marauder women's team is off to a strong start and has moved up to No. 6 in the latest CIS top-ten rankings. McMaster was able to take both ends of last weekend's conference games in Ottawa, defeating both the University of Ottawa and the Carleton Ravens.
Lakehead is also undefeated, having beaten Queen's and York last weekend in Thunder Bay. The Thunderwolves are led by OUA all-star Jylisa Williams, who was the OUA Female Athlete of the Week for her performance in the two OUA wins.
McMaster has been getting great production from junior guard Danielle Boiago, along with solid support from guard Hilary Hanaka and forward Clare Kenney. As a division rival, these games with Lakehead are critical to post-season standings.
On the men's side, McMaster will be looking to bounce back after the toughest road trip in Canada. Losing two in Ottawa is not unusual, but the Marauders can't afford to fall further behind division rival Lakehead. The Thunderwolves defended their home-court last week with wins over Queen's and York and can put McMaster in a deep hole with a win or two this weekend at the Burridge Gym.
Lakehead Coach Manny Furtado will be returning to his hometown as a CIS head coach for the first time, and OUA all-star guard Dwayne Harvey will also be playing in front of family and friends.
The Marauders need to put their Ottawa experience behind them and take care of business, and are counting on the comfortable confines of the Burridge Gym to help them against the Thunderwolves.
