Box Score It was a classic trap game for the McMaster men's basketball team, but they did not look past the Brock Badgers and brought a 95-59 victory home from St. Catharines on Wednesday night.

With a big game against Windsor looming, it would have been easy for the first-place Marauders to overlook the match-up with the Badgers but a combination of long distance shooting and solid rebounding secured the win.

The first quarter saw the teams tied 12-12 when McMaster went on an 8-0 run to grab a 20-12 lead. The quarter ended with the Maroon in front 22-17, as Nate Pelech had seven points to lead the way.

Scoring the first eight points of the second quarter inflated the lead to 13 and forced Brock Coach Charles Kissi to call timeout. A former standout player with the Marauders, this was Kissi's first time coaching against his alma mater. The Marauders kept up the pressure and by intermission, McMaster was ahead 49-28.

The third quarter saw some sloppy basketball from both teams, with numerous turnovers and missed shots. The Marauders won the period by a single point to hold a 69-47 advantage heading to the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter saw some inside scoring come from Nathan McCarthy as the Marauders clamped down on the Badgers and started to grow the lead again. McMaster was able to clear the bench in the fourth period, getting all 12 players some floor time en route to the final 36-point margin.

Nate Pelech scored 19 to pace a very balanced Mac attack, while Brock's outstanding rookie Dani Elgadi had 25 for the Badgers. The Marauders hit 11 of 30 from beyond the arc for the game.

The Marauders now prepare for a huge showdown with Windsor this Saturday, January 11th at 4 p.m. in the Burridge Gym. The second-place Lancers trail McMaster by one game in the standings so it will be a battle for top spot in the OUA West division.
