The McMaster women’s basketball team may want to view the new film “Jack the Giant Slayer” as it heads into the OUA West division final in Windsor. Getting some ideas on how to slay a giant may prove useful as the Marauders look to upset the top ranked team in the nation.
Tip-off at Windsor’s St. Denis Centre is set for 7 pm on Saturday, March 2
nd.
The Marauders seem to have peaked at the right time, having won eight of the team’s last nine games, and will need a terrific effort to take down the Lancers, who finished first in the OUA West with a perfect record of 21-0. McMaster did give them a tough battle, dropping a 56-48 decision back in January and will again need to play a smart game to keep the score down and limit Windsor’s opportunities.
McMaster’s inside-outside duo of Hailey Milligan and Danielle Boiago has been providing consistent production, with Milligan registering double figures in points and rebounds for 13 consecutive games. Boiago is coming off being named OUA female athlete of the week, for averaging 23.5-PPG in the playoffs.
Windsor counters with All-Canadian post Jessica Clemencon, who will battle with Milligan, and guards Miah-Marie Langlois and Korissa Williams, who should both challenge for league all-star status.
It may come down to which team gets better production from its secondary players, as both McMaster and Windsor are not afraid to go to their reserves.
The winner will advance to the CIS Championships in Regina, March 15-17, and will host the OUA East winner on Saturday, March 9
th in the OUA Final.
Saturday’s losing team will play at the loser of the OUA East final on March 9
th for the OUA Bronze medal and possible wildcard consideration for the Final-8 tournament.
The OUA West final will be telecast live on Hamilton’s Cable 14, and will also be available on radio on McMaster campus station CFMU 93.3 FM, and via live stream at:
