Box Score It was the definition of an ugly win, but the McMaster women's basketball team used another outstanding defensive effort to defeat the Ryerson Rams 66-42 in OUA interlock action at the Burridge Gym.

It took awhile for McMaster to find any offensive flow, and Ryerson got off to a good start by playing some tough defense of its own. Definitely playing with more intensity, the Rams ended the opening quarter leading the Marauders 15-11.

The women in Maroon put on their game faces in the second quarter and opened up with an 8-0 run to take the lead back and let Ryerson know the fight was on. Stephanie Truelove provided a spark at both ends and Hailey Milligan got some inside scores as the Marauders held Ryerson to eight points in the quarter and took a 34-23 lead into the intermission.

The shooting numbers for both teams were on the cool side, and there were enough turnovers to open a bakery.

The Rams struggled to find any scoring and the Marauders were able to extend the lead to 52-37 heading to the fourth quarter.

The final quarter saw the McMaster offense start to catch up to the defense, which was outstanding. Marauder guard Danielle Boiago started to hit from the floor and McMaster got some points in transition to expand their margin. Ryerson was held to only five points in the fourth quarter.

Boiago was the top shooter for the Maroon with 19 points, including 16 in the second half. Hailey Milligan had a double-double for the second straight game with 18 points and 11 rebounds. No Ryerson player was able to crack double-digits in scoring.

McMaster out-rebounded the Rams 37 to 27 for the game. The two teams combined to commit a dreadful 63 turnovers, with 36 of those coming from Ryerson.

McMaster will go on the road next week for its next set of OUA interlock games at Laurentian and Algoma.
