Box Score The McMaster women's basketball team remained undefeated in OUA interlock play by downing the Carleton Ravens 59-39 on Friday night in the Burridge Gym.
It was another gritty defensive performance by the Marauders, who have given up the fewest points in the OUA so far this season.
Carleton's Natasha Plaskacz hit a game-opening three-pointer on the Raven's first possession, but that was the only lead Carleton had for the rest of the game. McMaster promptly went on a 9-0 run to grab a six-point lead and at the end of one quarter McMaster was in front 11-10.
McMaster continued to add to its lead in the second quarter, although scoring was at a premium. The Marauders held the Ravens to 8 points and scored 12 of their own and the Maroon margin at intermission was 23-18. Only three Marauders scored in the opening half, led by Hailey Milligan's 13 points.
The second half saw both teams keep up the defensive pressure and with the perimeter shots not falling, McMaster looked inside to Milligan, who either scored or forced the Ravens to commit a foul. The third quarter was close but McMaster held a 39-33 lead heading to the final stanza.
In the fourth quarter, Milligan started to get some support and behind Danielle Boiago and Vanessa Bonomo the lead grew over the final 10 minutes. McMaster kept up the defense, holding Carleton to 6 points in the final quarter to win the game by 20.
Milligan was unstoppable for the Maroon, scoring a career high 30 points and grabbing 18 rebounds. Boiago added 16, while Bonomo chipped in with 8 points, all in the second-half. No Raven shooter could hit for double-figures, and Plaskacz was the top Carleton scorer with 9 points.
McMaster will now face another tough opponent when the Ottawa Gee-Gees come to Hamilton on Saturday, November 16
th. Tip-off in the Burridge Gym is set for 6 pm.
