MAC MEN’S BASKETBALL WILTS UNDER WINDSOR PRESSURE

Box Score The McMaster men’s basketball team saw its four-game win streak snapped as the CIS No. 9 Windsor Lancers came into Hamilton Wednesday night and left with a 93-77 win.

The first-quarter looked like the Marauders would run away with the game as they came out on fire and behind some sensational shooting from Joe Rocca opened up a 16-6 lead, that grew to 32-15 by the end of the period.  Rocca had 12 points as he knocked down all four of his 3-point shots.

But first-place Windsor found its legs in the second quarter and opened the period on an 11-2 run to cut the Marauder lead to 10.  Senior post Lien Phillip sparked the Windsor comeback.  The Marauders responded, but as the quarter progressed the lead continued to dwindle and only a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Aaron Redpath allowed Mac to take a 51-44 lead into the locker-room  at intermission.

Playing without injured point guard Adam Presutti for the second straight game, the Marauders faced constant pressure from the Lancers, who forced several turnovers which helped them get back in the game.

Despite Mac leading at halftime, the momentum was clearly with Windsor and when senior guard Josh Collins started to heat up from outside the tide had turned.  Winning the quarter 24-11, it was Windsor that led 68-62 heading into the fourth.

Trailing by six McMaster continued to struggle against the Windsor press and the Lancers’ confidence blossomed with Mike Petrella and Enrico Diloreto helping build the advantage.  The Marauders were not able to make the run they needed and the Lancers closed out an impressive win.

The Marauders were led by Joe Rocca, who finished with 18. Taylor Black was named the BIG MAC player of the game for his 13 point and 8 rebound effort.   Windsor finished with four players in double-figure scoring, with Diloreto’s 18 leading the way.

Having seen its win streak snapped, McMaster will head to Waterloo on Saturday for a game with the Warriors, looking to start a new streak.
