MARAUDERS DESTROY BADGERS AS FOUR SCORE FOR THE WIN

Hamilton, Ont. - The McMaster women's soccer team stormed past the Brock Badgers on Saturday afternoon at Ron Joyce Stadium by a score of 4-0.

The first half started off slow with both teams feeling each other out, and it would take until the 29th minute to score the first goal of the game. A cross from Emma Mangialardi (Oakville, Ont.) would allow for Alicjia Giftopolous (Ancaster, Ont.) to get a shot off. Her first shot would be stopped by Brock's goalkeeper, but the rebound would come right back to the fourth-year and she would bury it on her second chance to put McMaster up by one.

Just seven minutes later, a Badger would beat goalkeeper Jocelyn Wilkins (London, Ont.) and would look to have a wide open net to tie up the game. Fortunately, defender Cristina Leonardelli (Woodbridge, Ont.) would come out of no where to make a dive to save the goal.

Giftopolous would have another chance later in the half, but was unable to capitalize. The Marauders would head into the second half up 1-0.

In the second, the crowd would grow in size and loudness in favour of the Marauders and the players would feed off the energy to score three more goals. The first came from defender Sophia Ykema (Surrey, BC)  from a corner kick in the 57th minute.

McMaster's third goal of the game came from substitute Alyssa Fenuta (Woodbridge, Ont.). The fourth-year midfielder would shoot a looping ball over the goalkeepers head for her first of the season in the 63rd minute. The Marauders really sealed the deal with a final goal in extra time from forward Stephanie Davis (Mississauga, Ont.).

Wilkins and Brittany Duffey (Markham, Ont.) shared goalkeeper duty for the Marauders, with both helping to shut out the Badgers in one half of the game each.

McMaster hosts the No. 5 Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday at Ron Joyce Stadum at 1pm and will play at the same time and place on Saturday against the Waterloo Warriors.
