Guelph, Ont. - The McMaster women's basketball team travelled to Guelph to compete in their third last game of the 2011-12 regular season. In the Marauders last match-up with the Gryphons just two weeks ago, they earned the 66-63 win, but it would be the Gryphons prevailing on Saturday afternoon by a score of 76-68.
The Gryphons would take the lead in the first quarter 23-17, but by the half, the Marauders would get within three, outscoring Guelph in the second quarter. Guelph's lead would grow to four by the end of the third quarter and in the fourth, the Marauders would be unable to catch-up as Guelph scored 22 to McMaster's 18.
Fifth-year Taylor Chiarot had a team-high 16 points along with 11 rebounds for the double-double. Point guard Vanessa Bonomo scored 15 points and added six assists and Hailey Milligan had 14 points and seven rebounds in the loss. Stephanie Truelove added 11 more for the Marauders and Liz Burns connected for ten points of her own.
For the Gryphons, Ali Dzikowski and Marlee Freeman scored a game-high 18 points each. Dizkowski would grab 11 rebounds for the only other double-double in the game. Jasmine Douglas and Alyssa Shortt added ten more points each for the home team.
The Marauders travel to London to take on the Mustangs in their second last game of the regular season, hoping to secure a home playoff game in the first round of playoffs
