Box Score The McMaster women’s basketball team came into weekend play on a four-game losing skid and ended it on a two-game win streak by beating the Ryerson Rams 83-70.
The Marauders got off to a quick start and built up a 10-point lead in the first quarter, only to have Ryerson come back late and score from halfcourt at the buzzer to trim the Mac advantage to 28-23.
The second quarter saw McMaster struggle offensively and some bad turnovers allowed Ryerson to get closer. Again the Marauders gave up a late three to the Rams and at the half, Ryerson had taken over the lead at 38-37.
A strong start to the third quarter allowed McMaster to retake the lead and it grew to as many as nine points, but the Rams rallied and by the end of the period, it was a two-point game with Mac on top 60-58.
The final stanza saw McMaster play some long ball as Danielle Boiago and Rachael Holmes both connected from long-range and Ryerson had no answer. A series of missed shots and fouls by the Rams allowed Mac to build the lead into double-digits, and Ryerson could not get the deficit under 10 before the final buzzer.
The top Marauder shooter on this night was Boiago, who dropped 29 on the Rams. Isabel Ormond with 14 and Vanessa Bonomo with 13 also cracked double figures for the Maroon. For Ryerson, Cassandra Nofuente scored 20.
McMaster completes the interlock part of the schedule with a 3 and 4 record and will next play at the University of Calgary tournament over the Holidays, before starting OUA west competition in January.
