MARAUDER MEN’S BASKETBALL HUMBLED BY RYERSON

Box Score The McMaster men’s basketball team could not stop undefeated Ryerson on the Rams’ homecourt Saturday evening and dropped a 92-68 decision to finish the OUA interlock with a record of 2 and 5.

The Marauders allowed the Rams to control the entire game from the opening tip, and trailed 23-11 after the first 10 minutes, putting themselves in a deep hole.  Ryerson had just moved into the CIS top-ten this week for the first time in a decade and wanted to complete the interlock with a perfect 8 and 0 record in front of the home fans.

A better second quarter by McMaster saw the lead cut to 10 at halftime, but defensively McMaster was struggling and it would become an issue as the game wore on.

Needing to come out hard in the third to get back in the game, McMaster instead allowed the Rams to dominate and by the end of three, the Ryerson lead had grown to 67-50.

The final quarter saw McMaster get as close as 13, but Ryerson’s Aaron Best proceeded to put on a show for the Ram faithful and seemingly scored at will in the fourth.   A final three-point basket by Best at the buzzer was the final insult as Ryerson took the game by a 24 point margin.

Top shooter for McMaster was Adam Presutti, who finished with 13.  Aaron Best was game high scoring 34 points for Ryerson, that included making five of six three-point attempts.  Overall, Ryerson shot 52% from beyond the arc, hitting 12 of 23.   Ryerson also out-rebounded the Marauders 39-31 for the game.

McMaster will now try to regroup in preparation for OUA West division play starting in January.  The Marauders will play in the Ryerson holiday tournament December 28-30 in Toronto.
