MARAUDER WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CONQUERED BY QUEEN’S

Box Score The McMaster women’s basketball team continued its third quarter struggles and dropped an 80-67 decision to the Queen’s Gaels on Saturday evening in the Burridge Gym.

The Marauders jumped out to a 10-4 lead to start the game, but Queen’s settled down and started to chip away at the Mac advantage.  After a Danielle Boiago free throw made the score 15-14 in favour of the Marauders, the Gaels finished the quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 23-15 lead.

McMaster stepped up the intensity in the second stanza, and at half time the Queen’s lead was down to a single basket at 37-35.

The third quarter has been a sore spot for Mac all season, as the Marauders have not been able to find their legs after intermission.  Queen’s dominated in the third, outscoring the Marauders 31-13 to take a 68-48 lead heading to the fourth quarter.

The Marauders tried to come back in the final period but could get no closer than 11 points, and despite winning the quarter 19-12, they lost the game 80-67.

Freshman guard Danielle Boiago led McMaster with 23 points and 11 rebounds and was the BIG MAC player of the game.  No other Marauder scored in double figures. Queen’s had four players score in double figures, led by Sydney Kernahan with 14.  The Gaels were especially deadly from long range, hitting nine of 23 3-point shots.

McMaster managed to win the battle of the boards 41-37, but the team hurt itself from the free throw line by only making 16 of 29 attempts.

The Marauders will now travel to play the Toronto Varsity Blues on Friday, November 30th with a 6 p.m. tip at the U of T sports gym.
