Box Score The McMaster men’s basketball team lost its fourth straight OUA game against east division opponents, dropping a narrow 77-73 game to the Queen’s Gaels on Saturday night at the Burridge Gym.
The Marauders had an early 10-6 lead behind a pair of three-point shots from Aaron Redpath, but by the end of the quarter Queen’s had managed to grab a one-point lead at 19-18.
The second quarter belonged to the Marauders by a 23-16 margin, giving Mac a six point halftime lead.
In the third quarter, Queen’s outscored McMaster 21-12 behind some impressive shooting from Greg Faulkner and MacKenzie Simpson, and after three the Gaels had a 56-53 lead.
The fourth quarter saw Queen’s continue its strong play and the lead grew to 64-55 with just under six minutes left. That was when McMaster started a furious rally and a long three from Redpath tied the game at 67-67 with just over two minutes to go.
The teams jockeyed back and forth, exchanging the lead until Queen’s guard Suk Singh made a driving layup that gave the Gaels a four-point cushion, which they maintained until the final buzzer.
For the Marauders, Taylor Black was the top scorer with 20 points, while adding 12 rebounds and five blocked shots. Black was the BIG MAC player of the game for McMaster. Aaron Redpath chipped in with 18. For Queen’s Singh had a game high 22 points, while three other Gaels registered double figures.
McMaster only made 14 of 27 attempts from the charity stripe, which did not help the cause in a close game.
Next action for the Marauders is Friday, November 30 when they head to Toronto to play the Varsity Blues. Tip off at the U of T sports Gym is set for 8 p.m.
